What is party invite and how does it work on Call of Duty 4 for the PS3? Do i need a clan tag to make it work?

do you have any friends on your xmb screen.if you do,when playing cod4 you can invite them to play in a party game together.its just the same as a normal game but you get to play with people you know and no you dont need a clan for this.
